We are seeking a part time Director for Just For Kids, our after-school program for Raub Middle School 6th through 8th grade students. The person we seek will have a heart for middle school youth, and relate well to both the youth and adult volunteers. He or she will have the vision and leadership skills to provide a safe place where youth are welcomed and nurtured. Skills that an excellent candidate would bring to this position include:
- Experience in the field of K-12 education or social services.
- A capacity to enjoy, and to appreciate, our student constituency and understand their needs.
- Strong administrative skills, including visioning, program development and management, delegation.
- Strong human resources skills, including recruitment of volunteers, team building, development of policies and orientation to same.
- Ability to take on development/fundraising, including grant writing to public and private sources, track expenses and work closely with the Advisory Council to ensure viability of program.
Duties include:
- Recruit, train, schedule and supervise all volunteers;
- Assure that all volunteers receive the Diocese of Bethlehem’s Safeguarding God’s Children sexual misconduct training and background checks;
- Assess volunteer and student interests to determine which clubs will be held each session;
- Work with Raub Middle School to promote the JFK program and maintain communication;
- Oversee the day-to-day activities of the program (currently Tuesday and Thursday)
- Set up and clean up for each session (the Director should expect to be on site from 2:30-5:30pm each day JFK is in session);
- Procure supplies needed for each session;
- Submit proper invoices and sale slips for reimbursement to the church Bookkeeper in a timely manner;
- Submit to the Rector* and JFK Advisory Council proposals, for approval, for expenditures beyond the standard operating costs with proper documentation prior to acquisition of same;
- Support the growth of the program that is consistent with our mission and that meets the needs of the students by submitting a proposal to the Rector* and the JFK Advisory Council for consideration. Included in the proposal shall be an estimated budget and request for extra hours needed for implementation;
- Work with the Advisory Council to develop a yearly budget and calendar for the JFK program;
- Research and write grants to fund the program;
- Keep the parish informed about JFK activities through the parish newsletter or other forums;
- Submit an Annual Report four weeks prior to the Annual Parish Meeting;
- Attend quarterly Mediator staff meetings as available.
* In the absence of the Rector, the Director will work with the person assigned by the Vestry during that absence.
The Director may delegate or receive assistance in any of these areas. It is expected that the Advisory Council will share some of these responsibilities with the Director. The JFK Advisory Council is made up of volunteers from the parish and community, an administrator from Raub Middle School (when possible), the Rector of the Episcopal Church of the Mediator, and the JFK Director (serving as ex-officio member). This Council meets periodically throughout the year to review the program and to assist the Director with grant writing, policies, and communication. The salary is based on a schedule of 28 weeks during the school year at an average of 12 hours a week at an hourly rate of $15 and is paid every two weeks from mid-August to May 6, which is the last day of the scheduled fifth session of the school year.
Our parish and the Diocese of Bethlehem are dedicated to safeguarding God’s children, both within our parish and those we serve in the community. A tentative schedule for the 2009-2010 school year is as follows: Session 1: Sept. 15 to Oct. 8; Session 2: Oct. 27 to Nov. 19 with no session on Nov. 3; Session 3: Jan. 5 to Jan. 28; Session 4: Feb. 23 to March 18; Session 5: April 13 to May 6.
