The "O Antiphones": What Are We Waiting For?
Thursdays, December 2, 9, 16, 2010 from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m.
The "O Antiphons", which the Choir sings at our 10:15 a.m. service while the candles on the Advent wreath are being lit, are ancient antiphons used preceding the Magnificat in Vespers the week before Christmas, Each antiphon highlights a title for the Messiah: O Wisdom; O Lord; O Root of Jesse; O Key of David, O Rising Sun; O King of the Nations; O Emmanuel. In Latin the first letters of these titles form the words "Tomorrow, I will come." This class will explore the roots of these titles in the writings of Isaiah and other parts of scripture, and explore what they mean to us today. Maria Tjeltveit will lead the first and last class and Clint Miller, our Organist and Choirmaster, will lead the second class, discussing the musical settings and use of the texts. Please contact Maria at revmaria@episcopalmediator.org to get the readings for the first class.
