Adult Christian Education
Adult Christian Education at the Mediator takes many forms, including:
- Adult Forum (Sunday Mornings)
- Midweek Bible Study / Prayer Group (Tuesday Mornings)
- Monday Morning [Monday Morning Bible Study]
- Thursday Evening Class
- Inquirers' Class (Scheduled According to Interest)
- Small Groups
Adult Forum
Adult Forum meets in the Commons Room Sunday mornings from 9:10 a.m. to 10:05 a.m. (child care is available in the Nursery for children too young for Sunday School). "Adult" because we never grow too old to learn and think. "Forum" because we wrestle together in an open forum, discussing, asking questions and providing (often tentative) answers, and interacting with one another. For a list of programs, look here.

Tuesday Morning at 10:00 a.m., after Eucharist
Every Tuesday morning at 10:00, after the service of Holy Eucharist and Laying on of Hands for Healing in the Mary Chapel, this ongoing group continues in the library with a devotional Bible Study, usually focusing on the lessons for the upcoming Sunday. The group continues with discussion, closing with prayers for those who are sick and the pastoral needs of our parish. Visitors and new members are always welcome.

Monday Mornings at 10:00 a.m. in the Library
The
Monday Bible Study will focus on the Old Testament Prophets, Amos and
Hosea. This study challenges us to join the prophets in being boundary
crossers; to cross the boundary between religion and politics, or that
boundary between “us” and “them”. Amos’ and Hosea’s message
is surely relevant for a society such as ours, divided on issues of
theology, politics, economics, government and morality. We need to hear
about God’s tough love and amazing grace which are extended by the
Lord to a people who have often broken the divine heart.
We will meet on Monday mornings at 10:00am in the Library at the church starting January 9, 2012. Please sign up in the library so we know how many books to order. Everyone is welcome to join us for this study. If you have questions, please contact Patricia G., 610/967-5523 or pgaukler@ptd.net, or the church office.
↑ Return to TopThursday Evening Class
Jonah: Hapless & Helpful. Thursdays, 7:00-8:30 p.m. continues September 29 and October 13, in the library. The short whimsical book of Jonah describes a prophet who runs away from God, gets swallowed by a whale, and pouts when God forgives the people of a large city. What does Jonah have to teach us about our call to ministry, our process of discernment, and discovery of our gifts? Come, explore with The Rev. Canon Lexa Shallcross, the retired rector of St. Margaret’s Church in Emmaus. Please contact the church office to register (610-434-0155 or send an email to mail@episcopalmediator.org.

Are
you interested in learning more about your faith and the Episcopal
Church; want to be baptized, Confirmed, or Received into the Episcopal
Church; have some questions about what we do in church? The
Inquirers’ Class is for you!
The
Inquirers’ Class is an opportunity to explore with other adults what
it means to be a person of faith and an Episcopalian. Our bishop, The
Rt. Rev. Paul Marshall, will be here on Pentecost, May 27, for
Confirmation, Reception, and Reaffirmation of Faith.
Our class builds toward that event, but you are welcome to take
the class without doing anything liturgical or official at the end.
This
year’s Inquirers’ Class has two tracks. Both tracks will
incorporate the We
Believe
Lenten small group study, and participation in the Easter Vigil.
Track
One: If
you have been active at Mediator for more than two years and
participated in a Water
in the Wilderness small
group study of the Baptismal Covenant last year, you may be a part of
any We
Believe
small group and attend three other meetings: an orientation meeting on
Sunday, February 5; and classes on Sundays, May 6 and May 20, all from
noon to 2:00 p.m., in the library.
Track
Two: If
you are new to the church or you did not participate in the Water
in the Wilderness study
of the Baptismal Covenant last year, you will be a part of the longer
Inquirers’ Class. The classes will
be Sundays, February
5, 19, and 26, March 4, 11, 18, and 25, April 1, and 22, May 6 and 20;
all from noon to 2:00 p.m., in the library. During Lent we will
function as a We
Believe
study group (perhaps incorporating some other people).
To register, or to find out more, please contact the rector, Maria Tjeltveit, at 610-434-0155 or revmaria@episcopalmediator.org and plan to join us for the first meeting on February 5.
Small Groups
So many of us loved the small group experience from our Lenten program, Water in the Wilderness, that we want to keep the momentum going. Look for notices in the bulletin for a plan to create a small groups' curriculum for summer and fall. If you think you might be interested in being in a small group for summer, contact Nanette S. or Earlaine K, or leave your name with the church office.
