CROP Walk

Sunday, October 12, 2008

A date you can make a difference through your support of the Allentown CROP Walk

It's not the same CROP Walk.  This year the CROP Walk returns to its original 10K (6.2 miles) through the city.  The CROP Walk committee has made an extra effort to encourage churches of all faiths to participate.

Mark your calendars for Sunday, October 12, 2008, and plan your mode of contributing to the eradication of hunger and poverty.  Walk/Jog the 10K (6.2 miles).  Golden Mile Hamilton Park Route.  Eleven mile Bicycle Route.  Sponsor a Participating Parishioner.

Walking with hungry persons or as a hungry person challenges us to re-examine how we live.  I have never met a person who was sorry they participated in the CROP Walk.  Some comments include: "I felt important."  'I got to see a lot of kids I go to school with."  "It was fun."  "Everyone was really nice."  "It's either this or football."  "I liked the snacks."  "They made us do it but it was ok."

Last year our community raised #31,220 - its largest amount in 28 years.  The Mediator Rite 13 group gave our congregation a boost and made last year one of our most successful walks.  Remember, 25% of funds are used at the LV Ecumenical Food Bank, LCCC Soup Kitchen and 75% supports Church World Services.  Check it out!

Participants meet at St. Timothy's Lutheran Church, Ott and Walnut Streets at 1:00 p.m.  Sign up information will be available on the Outreach bulletin board.
