When
in our Music God is Glorified
February
5. Anglican
Church Music. Our
series on music continues with our Organist and Choir Master, Clint
Miller, talking about the traditions of hymns, chant, and anthems that
shape our life and worship as Episcopalians and Anglicans.
February
12. Gospel
Music.
The music of the African American Church, embodied in Gospel music will
be discussed by Brian Smith, a parishioner who has worshiped in a
variety of churches with Gospel music.
February 19. Taizé Chant and the Spirituality of Music. Taizé is an interdenominational religious community in France where their worship is based on meditative chant. Maria Tjeltveit and Nanette Smith will discuss this music, as well as introducing a “Spirituality Wheel” which helps us understand why different people relate to music and worship in varied ways.
Evil
and Good, Sin and Forgiveness
In
our Baptismal Covenant we promise to “persevere in resisting evil
and, whenever we fall into sin, repent and return to the Lord.” But
how do we understand evil and sin, as well as goodness and forgiveness?
This Lenten series explores this question from a number of
perspectives: Old Testament; NewTestament; Judaism; Islam, Psychology;
and Christian theology.
February 26. Old Testament Perspectives. Deborah Appler, professor of Old Testament at Moravian Seminary, will explore with us what the Old Testament, or Hebrew Scriptures, says about evil and good, sin and forgiveness.
