Allentown CROP Walk

As I sat down to write this article for the Media-rite I was interrupted by a knock on the back door.  Standing on the other side of the screen was my almost 90-year-old neighbor with a bag of tomatoes fresh from his garden.  Our garden produced nothing this year while only a few feet away, my neighbor's garden was plentiful, and he wanted to share.

This is the 30th anniversary of the CROP Walk.  Our congregation has been involved for about 18 of those years.  Won't you consider what you can give from your plentiful garden?

Date: Sunday, October 11, 2009
Time: 1:00 p.m.
Place: St. Timothy's Lutheran Church
What:  A six-mile walk through Allentown or a Golden One Mile Walk
Walk yourself, or sponsor a walker and "Help Stop Hunger" - Sign up in the vestibule and join us.

One fourth of the total proceeds will be split between the LCCC Soup Kitchen and Allentown Area Ecumenical Food Bank.

Praying and expecting everything to come from God and not doing anything yourself is not praying.  This is laziness; this is alienation.  This is passivity, conformity.  This is not the time, dear brothers and sisters to say: It is God's will.  Many things happen that are not God's will.  When people can contribute something of themselves to improve the situation and ask God for the courage to do so, then there is prayer.
